Give feedback on youth services in Ashley
Bristol City Council has sent us a survey, which can be downloaded as a word document here. Due to the government cuts youth services are going to be cut by 50% and the council wants to know how people think the remaining budget should be spent.
It is really important that you send back your thoughts so that the bid for young people’s services for this area reflects what the young people and residents want.
Young People’s Database
As many of you will already be aware, St Pauls Unlimited, with the assistance of the brilliant volunteer Delroy Hibbert, have put together a searchable database of youth provision and activities which focusses on opportunities here in St Pauls.
While we have focussed specifically on opportunities for St Pauls Young People, you will see that the information contained in the databases stretches much further and as such will hopefully be useful to a wider audience.
This is an excel file which you can download here
Please feel free to share this with anyone you think might find it useful.
Obviously, this database will be most useful as long as the details are kept up-to-date which will be an ongoing challenge for us. If you have new or additional details you would like to have added to the database please send Richard Orna an email at richard.orna@bristol.gov.uk and he will add them to our master copy.
Finally, a few instructions on how to use the database:
1) You will need to download this file onto your computer and make sure you click the “enable” macros button every time you open it…otherwise it will not work correctly!
2) Play around with the buttons on the top left of the page. The “show contact details” and “hide contact details” buttons allow you to view more or less information as necessary.
3) You will see quite a few small white boxes under the different “categories” of information (opportunity type, age range, location, etc). If you click in a white box you will see a check mark appear and the spreadsheet will automatically sort itself so you will only be viewing entries that “meet that criteria”. You can tick multiple boxes at one time to sort (for example) for training examples for 16-18 year olds in St Pauls that are free.
To view all of the information again just click in the small white box again to get rid of the tick mark and the sheet will again, automatically, populate.
4) You can search out specific word in the database by writing a search work in just above the “search” button. Just type in the word, click the “search button” and the bursor will automatically jump to the box containing the word.
This is a new database and we expected there will be a few teething problems. While we have tried to make it as easy to use as possible we are aware we may need to make some additional changes so if you get stuck or have any problems at all please give us a call. Richard Orna (0117 903 9934) is the database guru who built this and he would be very happy to help you if needed!
Read our research on young people in St Pauls
St Pauls Unlimited and Places for People recently partnered with Jamafrique, Full Circle, Docklands Youth Centre and the St Pauls Adventure Playground to carry out a bit of research focusing on Young People in St Pauls. We wanted to find out what challenges are facing our Young People and how they feel about the opportunities that exist for them in St Pauls.
A summary of that research can be found here. If you are a local organisation working with YP and you’d like to try and find some more specific information about particular groups we surveyed please get in touch. While this research offers an overview of the information we collected, we would consider pulling out additional details if it will help you with your work or a grant application.
