About

St Pauls Unlimited came from the St Pauls Residents Group – it was founded in 2001 by active and interested people who wanted to make positive changes to the environment and lives of the people of St Pauls and St Agnes in Bristol.

What is the PARTNERSHIP set up to do?

1. To provide an open, accountable, community-led organisation to advocate and lobby for the community of St Pauls.

2. To encourage and support partnership working between the local community, service providers and other community and voluntary groups.

3. To influence and change the way agencies work in St Pauls so that they better meet the needs of local people.

4. To positively challenge and change the negative reputation and stereotypes of the St Pauls area.

5. To empower local people and groups to become actively involved in and take a lead in the regeneration of their area.

6.To coordinate the development and delivery of a Neighbourhood Plan which reflects the needs and aspirations of the multicultural community.

7. To promote equality and challenge discrimination.

8. Any other appropriate activities that further the above objectives

Some of our achievements to date include:

Successfully campaigning to stop a statutory drug service expanding its services in our community (St Paul’s already houses more than its fair share).

Successfully campaigning to change the name of the £500m development ‘Merchants Quarter’ because of links to Bristols trade in African slaves.

Successfully persuading Bristol City Council to build a childrens centre where the Partnership had decided it would be best, and not where the City Council thought would be best.

  • St Paul’s Learning & Family Centre.
  • St Paul’s Community Directory.
  • Doing a ‘street ambassadors’ survey to find out people s views & aspirations.
  • Working on a Neighbourhood Plan. (a massive project taking nearly 3 years)
  • Lobbying Council about the Broadmead expansion.
  • Launched the UsBus inner city community bus service.
  • Installing 4 community notice boards on the streets
  • Getting lighting put up in St Agnes Park
  • Working with agencies to improve local schools
  • Provided funding for Family Support / Childrens Centre Worker
  • Wrote to local & national press about the negative reporting of St Paul’s
  • Met with board of deputy prime minister to ask them about the lack of funding for youth provision
  • Worked with landlords & agencies to close down ‘crack houses’ under the locally developed ‘crack house protocol’

Setting up & supporting:

  • St Paul’s Bilingual Advocacy service
  • Victim support drop in service
  • Local labour project
  • Ashley youth arts project

We lobby, campaign and work for change, The partnership oversees ‘Task Groups’ which each look at a specific area of our community Task Groups are forums where residents, community groups, business people and agencies such as the Council and Police work together to improve services and the quality of life for all in St Pauls. For many people the groups have been a place where we have learned a lot about the way services are provided, the rules and regulations and in many ways there have been clear changes in the way agencies work as a result.

St Pauls Unlimited works in partnership with many people and organisations

from service providers like Bristol City Council to Refuse Collection and the Police. Many residents of St Pauls & St Agnes attend our meetings to help service providers get a better idea of how best to serve local people.
